Services that the License Bureau perform include vehicle transfers, registration renewal, driver’s license renewal, DNR licensing including water craft, snowmobile, all terrain vehicles, plus hunting and fishing licenses.

Beginning October 1, 2018 Minnesota will have three different types of driver’s licenses/identification cards that will each have different capabilities and permissions.  They are standard, enhanced, and REAL ID.  For more information on each different type of license, please visit the Department of Public Safety website .

Applications for Enhanced or REAL IDs will be accepted from 8:00 a.m. to 45 minutes prior to closing.  All other types of transactions will be accepted from 8:00 to our normal closing time.  Please consider using the State of Minnesota's newest feature that allows you to pre-apply for your driver's license or ID card before visiting your local license bureau.

Driver license testing is conducted every third Friday of the month at the Courthouse from 8:30 a.m. to noon and 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.  To scheudle a road test appointment, please call the Mankato Exam Station at 507-344-2799 or you can schedule an appointment online at www.mndriveinfo.org.

All written tests such as instructional permits, motorcycle, DWI and a variety of endorsement tests can be taken at the courthouse in the Commission Chambers every third  Friday of the month from 10:00 a.m. – 11:15 a.m. on a walk-in basis. Proper identification is required. DVS fees will only be accepted by the state examiners during written test time, 10:00 a.m. – 11:15 a.m. (Cash or Check only)
