The Le Sueur County Sheriff’s Office is excited to introduce TRIAD to Le Sueur County. TRIAD is a partnership of law enforcement, senior citizens and community groups. The goal of this organization is to reduce crime against the elderly and to reduce the fear of crime that seniors often experience. To achieve this goal, the Le Sueur County TRIAD group will promote and facilitate the ongoing information exchange between law enforcement and the seniors in our community.
TRIAD was started in the 1980s. In 1988, representatives from the American Association of Retired Persons (now AARP), the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), and the National Sheriffs’ Association (NSA) came together to attempt to define a way to help keep seniors safe from crime. TRIAD benefits both seniors and law enforcement. Law enforcement assists seniors by letting them get to know their local law enforcement while bringing them information to protect them which they can share with others in their senior communities. Seniors assist law enforcement by being the “eyes and ears” out in the community. Crimes targeting older adults are different in that victims are sought out because of their perceived vulnerabilities.
On May 8th we will host our first TRIAD meeting in Le Sueur County. It is important to the success of this organization for the senior community to support TRIAD by joining us each time we meet. TRIAD meetings will be tailored to address the things that are concerning the elderly. Each gathering will include a speaker or presentation to educate the elderly on law enforcement involvement and the current threats within our communities. We understand that it may not be easy for all seniors to attend each meeting so we hope those who are able to attend will take back the information provided and educate their fellow peers. As new threats are brought to our attention at the Sheriff’s Office, we will bring that information to the meetings in hopes to reach as many people as we can.
TRIAD provides an opportunity to spend time and network with law enforcement, local service providers and other seniors with a common goal of keeping our community aware and protected. As technology continues to evolve, it is important to look out for one another and share knowledge with friends and family. Whether you want to share what you have learned with others, assist law enforcement, become proactive in crime prevention or just get to know your local Sheriff - TRIAD is for you! As we launch this program we are hoping to build an eager team of seniors.
We look forward to you joining us for our first TRIAD meeting located at the Little Dandy in Le Center at 10:30am on May 8th, 2018 with a small luncheon to follow.
