Shoreland Alterations: Grading and Filling

Before you grade or fill in a shoreland area for any reason, contact Le Sueur County Environmental Services at 507-357-8538 to apply for a grading and filling permit.

A grading and filling permit is required for:

DEFINITIONS:

Shoreland: Land within 1,000 feet of the Ordinary High Water Level of a protected lake, wetland, or pond; or land within 300 feet of a protected river or stream or the landward extent of a floodplain, whichever is greater.

Shore Impact Zone: The area adjacent to the water for a distance equal to one half the required structure setback.

Bluff Impact Zone: The bluff itself and the land located within 20 feet from the top of the bluff.

Bluff Setback: 30 feet from top of bluff.
